You can focus on romantic love, but the invitation is to reach for a broader definition of love, one that includes romantic love.
The Process
Step 1: Check-In (about 5 minutes per man)
Each man takes about five minutes to share how he defines love.
He can choose to focus on romantic love. Preferably, he reaches for a more general definition, one that includes romantic love but isn’t limited to it.
Step 2: Reverse Check-In
After each man finishes, the other men give a reverse check-in: they reflect their subjective experience of hearing him define love.
Then the next man takes his turn, until every man has shared and heard his reverse check-in.
Step 3: Circle Up
When every man has gone, the group circles up and discusses:
- How was what each man brought different from the others?
- Why did each man choose a narrower definition, such as romantic love, or a broader one?
